Coca-cola, the solution for diarrhoea?

When you have an unfortunate bout of diarrhoea, the body loses vital water, mineral salts and sugars, which is both dangerous and is likely to make you feel weak. The famous fizzy drink, coca-cola can help to rapidly replace some of the lost nutrients that the body needs, meaning it could be a good option when facing bowel issues. 

The slight ‘fizz’ is said to help settle an upset stomach, caused by vomiting or diarrhoea, and the sugar present in cola can help replenish glucose stores. 

It is of course vital to combine drinking fizzy pop, such as coca-cola, Pepsi, or other brands of coke, with drinking water, to ensure you do not become dehydrated due to diarrhoea.

Despite the potential benefits of consuming coca-cola when you have diarrhoea, it is important to note that even though it may make you feel a bit better, it won’t stop your symptoms. If diarrhoea persists and you think you may be dehydrated, it is recommended that you seek medical advice.
