The summer holidays are here. However, this year you don’t feel like doing the same as always. You are tired of the heat, the sun and the beach, so you are looking for an alternative to all this to spend a pleasant holiday with family or friends away from the tourist mass. A very good option is to plan a getaway by car in Spain, during which you will be able to disconnect from the stress of day to day relaxing among mountains, incredible landscapes and pure nature like you have never seen before.

Although it is true that neighbouring countries such as Portugal and France have excellent areas to cover, it is also true that we have nothing to envy them, for Spain is full of hidden places worthy of appearing in any fiction film.

Therefore, the routes that we have selected for you range from the north to the south, and from the east to the west of the country, so that you can choose freely those landscapes that you want to know best.
It has not been easy, as the list could be endless. However, we have succeeded. Here are some of the most spectacular mountain routes you can take this summer. And remember, all you need is a car and good company.
The roads along this route, which are on the side of the river Jerte, will take you to places of interest such as Plasencia, Casas del Castañar, Cabrero, Barrado, Piornal, Valdastillas and El Torno. You will find fascinating natural gorges that make their way through the mountains. Among them, stands out the Gorge of Hell, which you must walk to.
For those who prefer to head south during their holidays, we propose a route through the Alpujarra of Granada, where nature, calm and tranquility will be the protagonists. There are many options, but we recommend you visit the area between the towns of Lanjarón and Trevélez.
This route starts in Santander. However, we are presented with several alternatives to finish it like enjoying the incredible landscapes of Pasiego after passing the port of El Escudo. On the other hand, for those who want to follow the route, there is the option to continue towards the port of Estacas de Trueba.
From one of the most impressive spots of the Picos de Europa, you can breathe nature on all four sides, surrounded by a fascinating landscape. You will also find such mythical peaks as Pico Urriellu or Naranjo de Bulnes.
When we get away from the coast, the interior of Murcia also offers surprising places like the Sierra Espuña, which is exactly where the route we propose starts. You just have to follow the Alquerías road, which will allow you to contemplate the Morrón de Alhama.
With a total of almost forty volcanoes, this route will delight those most fond of volcanic landscapes. A good starting point is the Fageda d’en Jordà, one of the most impressive beech forests. From there, you will travel through areas of lush vegetation, as well as medieval villages virtually untouched.
This hermitage is located on a mountainous island of Gaztelugatxe, a place full of magic joined by two arches to the continent. In addition, there is a small temple whose origins date back to the 10th century, well known for being the setting for famous movies and series like Game of Thrones. You can get there by foot, and we recommend you to complete the route by car through the beautiful villages on the coast of Biscay.
This island offers very attractive places, so touring it by car is a very good option that will make us forget a little of its wonderful beaches, to concentrate on the most curious natural sites it possesses such as its giant cliffs or its unique flora reserves.
This route starts from Tafalla and goes towards Sangüesa, an area of medieval borders on the Way of Saint James. Along the route, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the Palace of the Prince of Viana, the Sanctuary of Javier, the Monastery of San Salvador de Leyre and the foci of Lumbier and Arbayún.
